We’re now 80 days away til the big day. I can’t believe we’re almost down to the wire but I’m actually WAY ahead of schedule. Each day I’ve been chipping away at all that needs to be done with the wedding. I’m about 85% complete and now I’m focusing on the minor details. I’ve completed so many DIY projects that I can’t wait to share.
It’s been a long journey for my fiancé and me to finally get to this point, but we’re only getting started. We’ve been together for more than a decade and we’ve had our ups and downs. We’ve experienced the joy of living together and I have to say after almost 5 years of living with him, everyday is a surprise. I don’t think I could be any happier planning our special day and making it very much us.
Experiencing my share of weddings, it helped me look into more of what I wanted and to challenge myself to think out the box. During these times, it’s hard to spend BIG money on your wedding. Even though its one of those once in a lifetime opportunities, I wanted to be practical and unique.
Focusing on a small budget definitely helps you gather all your resources and shop for bargains. Also, it helped tap into a side that I’ve neglected for awhile. It’s fun to explore your creative side and get your Martha Stewart juices flowing. I’ve spent countless hours working on everything for my wedding, from the invitations to the centerpieces. I’ve also made brooches for all the women in my wedding with the exception of our mothers, who will be wearing flower corsages. I really wanted something fun, unique and something memorable.
Having a theme really helps with the vision of your wedding. I started off with the colors, brown and teal. Then when I decided on the month of our wedding, we started looking at the season. We’re getting married February 2010 and the standard theme would be Valentines Day. That is a bit corny to me, and also it’s not really my cup of tea, with roses and the elegance behind a Valentines Day theme wedding. Plus, flowers and other things would cost too much. So my MOH suggested Mardi Gra. Sure enough that was the perfect theme. I was bouncing around different ideas, with mask, mardi gra beads, and all the elements associating with the theme. After all my research, it ended costing a bit much with the ideas that I was bouncing around.
I checked out a site that one of my MOH used when planning her wedding. WeddingBee.com is an excellent source of shopping for good finds. With TONS of blogs from other brides-to-be out there, and people wanting to sale their leftovers from their weddings, you can find good bargains. People’s trash is your treasure. I was able to find my theme, peacocks. Found a good deal that I couldn’t pass up and it blossomed from their.
